Lakeville’s annual ice fishing contest was held Feb. 5 on Valley Lake and drew a crowd of 262 registered children. A total of 600 people including parents attended the event between noon and 2 p.m. Winners in the event’s three categories were Abbie Weinelt, 12, of Lakeville, who won with a 17-inch northern for the largest fish; Kassidy Palo, 4, of Apple Valley who won with a 4-inch sunny for the smallest fish; and Brett Herber, 8 of Lakeville won the most unusual bait by catching a sunny with mushroom, marshmallow, fruit snack, and goldfish crackers on a single hook.
